Verifying your download
Every Kapture release is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple before it reaches the download server. This page is the public record to check a copy against.

Check a download yourself
Section titled “Check a download yourself”In Terminal, on the app you installed:
codesign --verify --deep --strict -v /Applications/Kapture.appspctl --assess -vv --type execute /Applications/Kapture.appExpected: valid on disk / satisfies its Designated Requirement, and
accepted · source=Notarized Developer ID · origin=Developer ID Application: The Small Square LLC (8957HHS4ZA).
Every release’s SHA-256 is published at downloads.kapture.video/checksums.txt:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Kapture-latest.dmgVersion history lives in What’s new. Self-updates are delivered over a Sparkle appcast whose entries carry an Ed25519 signature pinned to a key inside the app — an update that was not built by us will not install.
If a security scanner flags the signature
Section titled “If a security scanner flags the signature”Tools that run their checks inside a sandbox — including some AI coding
agents — cannot reach macOS’s trust services, so codesign and spctl
fail for every app they scan there, including Apple’s own. If a scanner
reports an invalid signature, have it check a built-in Apple app the same
way; if that fails too, the verdict is about the sandbox, not the download.
Run the commands above in a normal Terminal, or simply open the app —
Gatekeeper’s own first-launch check is the assessment that counts.
Why Kapture asks for each permission
Section titled “Why Kapture asks for each permission”Everything below runs on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded; there is no account.
- Screen Recording — the recording itself.
- Accessibility & Input Monitoring — the input log that powers automatic zooms, the drawn cursor and key-cap overlays. Events are stored in your project bundle and never leave the machine.
- Camera & Microphone — your camera bubble and narration tracks.
- Speech Recognition — on-device transcription for captions. Apple’s on-device engine; audio is not sent anywhere.
Decline any of them and the features that need them switch off; the rest of the app keeps working.
