Troubleshooting

“Recording is disabled” or a black recording

Section titled ““Recording is disabled” or a black recording”

Screen Recording permission is missing or stale. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording → enable Kapture, then quit and reopen the app (macOS only applies this one on relaunch).

No automatic zooms, no cursor, no key-caps

Section titled “No automatic zooms, no cursor, no key-caps”

These come from the input event log, which needs Accessibility and Input Monitoring — macOS splits one capability across two switches, and both must be on while you record. Footage recorded without them can’t gain events after the fact.

Captions came out in the wrong language or engine

Section titled “Captions came out in the wrong language or engine”

Caption generation happens on-device; the engine and language are options on the Captions tab’s generate step. Regenerating replaces the transcript — edits to cue text are yours, so regenerate before polishing, not after.

Kapture checks its update feed on launch and periodically after. Quit and reopen to force a check. Updates install in place; your projects are untouched — they live in ~/Library/Application Support/Kapture/Projects/, one .kapture bundle per project, media included.

They shouldn’t — preview and export share one compositor, and we treat any divergence as a bug. If you catch one, note the timestamp and email hello@kapture.video with the project if you can share it.

  • Kapture must be running — the endpoint lives only while the app does. Settings → Automation should say Listening.
  • Reconnect with a fresh Copy command from that pane — the token can rotate.
  • The agent edits the frontmost project window; have it call open_project with a path to be explicit.

hello@kapture.video — a short screen recording of the problem (we know an app for that) beats any written description.
