Terms

Last updated 20 August 2026

Kapture is made by The Small Square LLC (“we”). Using the app or this site means agreeing to what follows. It is short because there is not much to agree to.

The licence you get

You may install and use Kapture on Macs you own or control. A Pro licence covers two machines — the usual case being a laptop and a desktop. The licence is yours, not the machine's: move it by deactivating one Mac and activating another.

You may not resell the app, redistribute it, or share a licence key with people outside your household or organisation. You may not work around the licence check or the export watermark, reverse-engineer the app except where law expressly permits it, or use the Kapture name or logo without permission. The app and site remain our intellectual property; these terms transfer none of it. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely without owing you anything — please keep anything confidential to yourself.

Free and Pro

Recording and editing are free, with no time limit and no restriction on features. Files exported without a licence carry a small corner watermark. A Pro licence removes it, and raises the export ceiling from 1080p at 30 fps to 4K at 60 fps. That is the whole difference between the tiers — recording, editing, captions and the agent tools are free either way, and we do not intend to move features across the line later.

Paying, and stopping

Pro comes two ways, both through Stripe. Monthly renews until you cancel; cancel any time and it keeps working to the end of the period you have paid for. The $99 licence is bought once and does not renew or expire.

The licence carries every version released in the twelve months after you buy it. When that window closes nothing is withdrawn: the copy you have keeps working exactly as it is, with no watermark and no feature switched off, for as long as your Mac runs it. You simply stop receiving newer versions until you choose to renew, and a renewal extends the window from where it ended rather than from the day you renew — lapsing never costs you the gap.

If Kapture does not do what you expected, write to hello@kapture.video within 30 days of buying and we will refund it — no argument and no form.

Files you have already exported stay yours and stay watermark-free whatever happens to the licence afterwards. Ending a subscription, or letting an updates window close, does not reach into work you have already published.

What you record

Your recordings are yours. We claim no rights over anything you capture, edit or export, and we never see it. You are responsible for what you record — including having permission to record other people, which in many places is a legal requirement rather than a courtesy.

Warranty and liability

Kapture is provided as it is. We work hard to make it reliable and we cannot promise it will never lose a recording, so keep anything you cannot afford to lose backed up the way you would any other file. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem.

Your responsibility for what you record

If a claim is brought against us because of something you recorded or published — recording people without the consent your jurisdiction requires being the obvious case — you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it. This is the one indemnity in these terms, and it only reaches conduct that was yours.

The formal version of the warranty

Stated the way the law expects: the app and site are provided “as is” and “as available”, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Where law requires a warranty, it is limited to 90 days from first use. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing reduces consumer rights that your local law grants you regardless of contract.

Changes and endings

These terms may change; the date at the top will say when. If a change matters to you and you do not accept it, stop using the app and ask for a refund of any unused period. We may end a licence that is being used to break these terms, which in practice means resale or tampering.

The legal tail

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us. If a piece of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stands. Not enforcing something once is not a waiver. You may not assign these terms; we may, for instance if the company is sold. They are governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which The Small Square LLC is organised, and disputes belong to the courts there — though small-claims court where you live is always open to you, and nothing here takes away rights your local consumer law gives you.

Anything unclear here, ask: hello@kapture.video.
